It's another October edition of the FORT90 FILM CLUB, and you know what that means! And am actually going to go back to the CLUB's "roots" so to speak this month, by showcasing horror flicks that are also video games and amusements adjacent...
HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER - This remake of the 50s horror/sci-fi classic tells the tale of a ragtag group of game developers all racing against the clock, as well as amongst themselves, to deliver the holiday season's hottest game, in order to secure a million dollar bonus from the publisher. But when a power surge transports their nightmare for any seasoned player into the real world, that's when the real game of survival begins.
THE MUMMY THEME PARK - When an earthquake uncovers a city of the dead, a theme park is inexplicably built on top. A pair of publicists are sent to check the place out, as to craft the perfect promotional copy, but they eventually discover that the thrill ride will literally be the time of their (quite possibly shortened) lives; imagine a film with all the ingenuity of Terry Gilliam, but with none of the substance, but it's still a fun time!
SEQUENCE BREAK - Also imagine something combines a film nerd's tribute to Stuart Gordon, Dario Argento, and David Cronenberg, especially the type of body horror seen in Videodrome, an exploration of the Polybius myth, i.e. the cursed arcade game urban legend, plus a love story, believe it or not. And that is Sequence Break in a nutshell.
***SECRET MOVIE*** It might be the most brutally horrific horror film that anyone who wishes to develop video games (ESPECIALLY games that take place in 3D) must absolutely see.
