ONE DAY ONLY: Self-Help, PotCell, Golder on 3.13

ONE DAY ONLY: Self-Help, PotCell, Golder on 3.13

Self-help is a group with a singular brand of indie pop rock. Their explosive energy and infectious grooves bring audiences to life with a performance that is highly engaging and a sound that’s hard to pin down. https://open.spotify.com/album/63IbJHpttefy5jEDzuLj3D?si=Bx-dHDcCRz68NRru6HFhmw

Powerhouse of The Cell began as a marketing experiment conducted by Keywrb Lab Group in the early 1990s. The goal was to create the illusion of a grassroots environmental movement through false flag TV and radio hijackings with music and visual art. While this project was ultimately defunded, there has recently been some documentation of the experiment resurfacing. https://open.spotify.com/album/7aR08Te6AyMA65H8rBMvNl?si=r203_ZqqREiG2yI2TVnTEA

Golder is a noise pop artist who combines deep indie roots with explosive contemporary production. He’s based in NYC and plays live with Taj Searles and Jesse Zalk. He recently released his new EP, I’m So Shallow When I Think of Death, which harnesses the glistening chaos he explored in his earlier work and playfully tackles themes of consumerism and mortality. https://open.spotify.com/album/11e3DbtUTbAv7IlhpveoEn?si=shJV7944TQu_DZn1EhHVJw

AnimeNEXT 2009: The Found Footage Documentary - 1st Public Screening!

The anime con experience of yesteryear packed into a hot wild 80 minutes.

AnimeNEXT 2009: The Found Footage documentary aims to simply evoke the magic of the anime convention golden years via a preserved three day convention experience, nothing more nothing less.

Comprised entirely of old digi-cam footage from an era before everything was manicured for social media & the cell phone camera, the documentary throws you right into the con, forcing all to bask in awe of these bygone, earnest weebs; Heart filled to brim the power of friendship and anime, lacking any and all shame. Most people who've seen the film have laughed, many have cried, a few dubbed it incomprehensible, and one called it absolute dreck!

This is the first time the film will be screened to the public, will it bring you down memory lane or drive you to madness? In anime convention tradition, the documentary screening will be paired with a couple of classic anime con panels so get there early!: Anime Burger Time by Evan Minto (Azuki.co, Ani-Gamers) The Great Gundam Gebate, featuring a panel of Newtype Level Gundam Nerds. We encourage old cosplay and kigurumi's to this totally free event!

Hope you join us Sunday, March 16th from 2PM to 5PM!

Robot Karaoke

Join us for karaoke night on impossible mode as we replace the lyrics to any SONG with words from any TEXT, then try to sing the results on the spot. It all happens live, so each song has never been heard before and will never be heard again.

Our songwriting system, THE WEIRD ALGORITHM, matches each line syllable-for-syllable, so you can sing along if you know the original tune.

Request any of the 100+ songs and 50+ texts in the catalog. Sign up to sing as an individual or a group...or sit back and watch the karaoke carnage.

Past combos include:

YELP REVIEWS OF PSYCHICS to the tune of TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART

CRAIGSLIST VEHICLE ADS to the tune of TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS

NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF PROFESSORS to the tune of VAMPIRE

BERNIE SANDERS EMAIL SUBJECT LINES to the tune of DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'

Hosted by Jamie Brew and Jenn Schiffer, two tech entrepreneurs on a mission to make karaoke harder and worse.

Free admission

Suggested donation - $10

Stream Big Book Launch

Stream Big Book Launch

Nathan Grayson, author of Stream Big: The Triumphs And Turmoils Of Twitch And The Stars Behind The Screen, is joined by Aftermath's Gita Jackson and Chris Person and Polygon's Simone de Rochefort for a discussion of the Amazon-owned livestreaming platform's place in modern gaming culture and beyond.

How did a website dedicated to watching people play video games grow into a force that has attracted attention from mainstream stars and politicians? What kind of work actually goes into being a popular Twitch streamer? Is it really as simple as sitting down in front of a camera and playing your favorite game? (No, absolutely not.) And how does one even begin to cover that as a journalist and write a book that encapsulates it all, especially when the world of livestreaming never stops, not even for a moment?

Come for answers to all of these questions and stay for never-before-told stories about your favorite/least favorite streamers.

Fort90 Film Club

Live, from Twitch dot TV forward slash __________, it's the FORT90 FILM CLUB! And it's February, and love is once again in the air, or at least it's supposed to be. But it like so many things, especially these days, is needlessly complicated. For example, I will be showing a movie that helped me fall in love with Hong Kong cinema way back in the day, but nowadays, I find my memories of such strong sentimentality kinda embarrassing to be honest! Said film is party of the line-up, goes without saying of course.

Tackycardia: 2 Year Anniversary

Tackycardia: 2 Year Anniversary

Well well well another year of Tackycardia in the books. Massive appreciation to everyone who has supported us over these last couple of years whether it’s artists we’ve booked, VJs, flyer designers, staff at Wonderville, or y’all who just serially show up and dance/game. We very much weren’t expecting for things to last this long when we started this little experiment out but here we are heading into year 3 of 150+ bpm fuckery!

Here’s what we’ve got for ya for our anniversary. Tackycardia alum DJ Allegation will be returning following appearances at Silo and Bossa Nova Civic Club. In addition, New England legend Jack McDevitt (also of Disco Ball Murder Kit) will be making the trek into NYC to treat us with some fresh sounds. Arpanette comes through following appearances at Eris and Café Kitsuné. Boj joins us following appearances at Happyfun Hideaway and the Cuff Complex while Tailz who heads Blast NYC comes following appearances at Eris, Trans Pecos and Hart Bar. The card will be rounded out by Tackycardia residents Cryostatik who recently put out 2 new tunes in Mess ‘Em Up and Solace as well as Alex Viper who is fresh off of December appearances at Tropical Dreams festival and Garage Sale in Massachusetts in addition to the Stuck on Earth reunion event in NYC. As usual not all of our lineup is known for their high BPM antics so we’re just as excited as y’all are to see what fantastic sets come out. Getting DJs and audiences alike a tad out of their comfort zones is one of our favorite things about doing these events and we are gonna keep it up :) Make sure to follow our instagram @tackcyardia_nyc as we’ll be posting a bit more about our artists in the lead up to the event!

We look forward to celebrating the occasion with y’all. As usual it’s a 150+ genrefluid affair with free entry and free to play arcade games. Donations are welcome to further support our events and can be made via cash in the tip bucket on the stage or via venmo through our QR code that you’ll see posted around the venue. Here’s to another year!
