REST IN SPEED: A Funeral for Kingda Ka

  • Wonderville 1186 Broadway Brooklyn, NY, 11221 United States (map)

Once standing proud as the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster, New Jersey's very own Kingda Ka has officially entered the pearly gates. Towering at an intimidating 456 feet in the air, and launching thrill seekers to the heavens at 128 miles per hour, the iconic green coaster has now been unceremoniously demolished by its keepers. Considering this monument to the extreme boundaries of engineering was shuttered without warning, leaving those who would have liked to take a final ride on it in the dust, it is only right that we gather for a makeshift farewell mere weeks before what would have been its 20th birthday. Whether you have fond memories of this behemoth, or were too scared to ever ride it, join us as we celebrate the life of the one and only Kingda Ka. Readings, performances, and videos will follow a presentation on the history of The King, as well as an open mic where the floor is yours to express just about anything you want on the topic of grief, loss, and roller coasters (keep it under five minutes please!). If you'd like to pitch a special presentation for the curated section of the evening, please reach out to @evian.official on Instagram. The suggested dress code is green, lots of green. Rest in Speed, King; coasters aren't forever, but the memories we made on them are.
